How to Identify fake GST bill?

GST had not been smooth for few shopkeeper, especially with regards with the bill of transactions.This is the reason why customers are made fool with unauthentic and improper bills.So this article will deal with how to spot fake GST bills.

1.Shopkeepers not eligible but still charging GST
Not all shopkeepers are needed to get registered themselves for GST and get a GSTIN (GST Identification Number).But still every bill has to show the proportion of Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST).

Small businesses having an all-India yearly turnover below Rs 20 lakh (Rs 10 lakh if business is situated in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, or Tripura) need not register.

2.Shopkeepers collecting GST in old format
It is observed that some business and shopkeepers are using old receipts carrying Value added tax(VAT), Taxpayer identification number(TIN) instead of GSTIN but still charging Central GST and State GST from customers.This is not correct and you can complain about this to the nearest Police Station or write to GST Council.

3.Shopkeepers not received the GSTIN
 There are shopkeepers who are charging Central GST and State GST but doen not mention there GSTIN as they may say that they have applied for this but still awaiting confirmation from the government.No, this is wrong.Shopkeeper must specify their provisional GSTIN.

As a customer, what should you do?
You may not come to know if the shopkeeper is fooling you or not? If you have any doubt, keep the bill hand and follow the procedure-
1.Log on to https://www.gst.gov.in
2.Under the "Tax payers" dropdown on the home screen, click on "Search by GSTIN/UIN"

3.Enter the GSTIN/UIN specified on the bill and click on search button.
4.If GSTIN/UIN is incorrect, following message will appear-
   "The GSTIN/UIN that you have entered is invalid. Please enter a valid GSTIN/UIN."

  If GSTIN/UIN is correct, following message will appear-
   -Legal name of business
   -State
   -Date of registration
   -Constitution of business - private or public limited company, sole-proprietor or partnership
